- Choose your berries carefully.
- Strawberries do not ripen once they are picked. Whatever they look like on the vine is what they will look like in the basket.
- Look for berries that are completely red. They will generally ripen from the top to bottom. If the bottom has a "white cap" choose another berry. Someone will get that one tomorrow!
- Don't pull on the berry itself.Strawberries Bruise very easily. Instead, cradle the berry in the palm of your hand and pinch the stem with your thumb and forefinger.
- Place (don't toss) the berries into whatever container you are using.
- Don't overfill your containers. The berries on the bottom don't like getting squished.
- Strawberries are the only fruit that has seed on the outside
- Strawberries belong to the rose family
- The average strawberry contains approximately 200 seeds
